For Gasification Technology Companies
Many companies have or are developing technologies that will gasify biomass to produce syngas. Syngas has many potential uses such as production of electricity, chemicals, and biofuels.  Like the farmers and other biomass producers, these gasification technology companies are seeking markets for their syngas for which they can receive a higher return. Financial analysis has shown that syngas used for the production of biofuels will generate a higher investment return than syngas used to produce electricity.

For First Generation Ethanol Producers
For first generation ethanol producers to grow their existing business via increased production they will need to adopt and implement second generation biofuel production technology.  A couple of factors contribute to this fact.  First, there is a growing resistance to the production of ethanol from food sources.  And second, there is a growing demand for alternative fuels which cannot be satisfied with the current ethanol production capacity.
